Tin · The Gentle Power of Civilization
Among all metals, only tin embodies both softness and strength.
It does not dazzle, yet endures; it does not boast, yet it shaped the very sheen of civilization.
Three thousand years ago, humankind fused tin with copper — and the Bronze Age was born.
For the first time, humans wielded hands and fire to reshape the very “game of power” in the material world.
Bronze vessels and divination were the exclusive prerogative of the royal court, and smelting by the common people was a serious crime, leaving bronze absent from everyday life.
Technology has always been the engine of human civilization.
Tin craftsmanship became an invisible thread tracing human history.
From the vessels of ancient Egypt to the living landscapes of the East,
it has quietly flowed through the objects and rituals of human life.
In China, tin symbolizes bestowal and blessing.
在文人的案上,它被錘煉為茶壺、花器、酒具;
On the scholar's desk, it was forged into Tea Ware, Flower Vessel and Wine Set;
Today, tin continues to bridge design and craftsmanship,
embodying the Eastern philosophy of being gentle yet strong.
In terms of functional aesthetics, it is antibacterial, preserves aromas, and fully recyclable—this ancient metal aligns perfectly with contemporary and future sustainable design.
Reimagining an Ancient Craft
Rooted in deep respect for tradition, contemporary inheritors of intangible cultural heritage continue to expand the expressive possibilities of tin—an ancient metal with thousands of years of history. By integrating pewter craftsmanship with woodwork, bamboo artistry, and porcelain techniques, Lu Xiaokan, inheritor of intangible cultural heritage pewter craftsmanship and the creative force behind Dong.Gong, a historic Dongyang craft atelier, has given this traditional art form a distinctive identity and unique spirit. Through works created for contemporary living environments and modern lifestyles, he reveals new possibilities for experiencing beauty in everyday life.
Whether scholar's objects, tea wares, or other functional vessels, Lu's creations consistently embody his signature aesthetic philosophy—restrained proportions, refined forms, and a quiet, contemplative elegance, with subtle details that reveal thoughtful ingenuity. His works have long transcended their original functional purpose, becoming objects of everyday companionship and vessels of refined living aesthetics. Through continuous exploration across the boundaries of craft and design, Dong.Gong creations have gradually entered the daily lives and artistic spaces of artists, collectors, and tea practitioners. These works, which breathe new life into traditional craftsmanship, have received numerous awards at national and regional arts and crafts exhibitions. Some exceptional pieces have also been acquired by anonymous collectors and preserved as private collections, existing today as truly one-of-a-kind works.

世间万物有灵;
[Design Philosophy]: We believe that a spirit resides in all things. There are no humble or noble materials, for bamboo, wood, metal, and stone each possess a unique soul. As the ancient text Kao Gong Ji (The Record of Trades) states:
Heaven has its time, the Earth its essence, Materials have their beauty, the artisan their skill. Only when these four are united, can a masterpiece be born.

To live well is an art on the verge of being lost.
One of a Kind |
Most of our creations are one-of-a-kind originals, and the piece you see is often the exact piece you will receive. Even when based on the same design, every piece carries its own character through the hands of the artisan. Natural variations in material texture, the movement of light and color, and the finest details ensure that no two artworks can ever be exactly alike.
Made to Order |
Whether inspired by a meaningful image, a personal story, or a special occasion, each commissioned artwork is individually crafted. Production time varies depending on the complexity of the design.
The Beauty of Handmade |
Nature never creates two identical leaves. Neither does the human hand. The subtle variations found in every handcrafted piece are not imperfections, but the unmistakable signature of craftsmanship—making each artwork a truly personal collectible.
Limited by Craft, Never by Intention |
Some designs may be produced again, but always in very limited numbers. Unlike industrial manufacturing, each handcrafted piece requires considerable time and meticulous attention. Production is intentionally limited, ensuring that every piece receives the care and craftsmanship it deserves.
